The Lizard Walk will take you along the coast into Ventnor, past lizard hotspots and lizard-inspired artworks.

You can start the walk at Ventnor Botanic Gardens, walk east along Steephill Road towards the town, through Ventnor Park then onto Belgrave Road and down the steep Bath Road to the coast through La Falais carpark. The wall at the back of the carpark is an excellent place to spot lizards on a sunny day. Continue on along the coastal path to the picturesque Steephill Cove; perfect for a paddle, an ice cream or a local crab sandwich. and back into the Botanic Gardens which are within the Undercliff microclimate resulting in a glorious show of plants from across the globe. The gardens contain our first project, a drystone wall built as a demonstration of lizard friendly construction. This walk is contained within our Map Pack click here for purchase details.
On the walk there are great rock pooling areas below La Falaise car park and the Spyglass where you could find sea slugs, bristle-stars and squat lobsters. Between Spring and Autumn, look out from the cliffs for skuas (the predatory sea bird), terns and gannets. At Flowers Brook, between the Botanic Garden and Ventnor Park, Britain’s rarest tree the black poplar can be found (click here for more about black poplars).
