Isle of Wight Festival

Early in 2008 Solo, organisers of the Isle of Wight Festival, realised there was a need to improve the environmental impact of the Festival. They didn’t just want to reduce their impact, but also to contribute positively to the Isle of Wight’s environment. Solo approached Gift to Nature, keen to find a way to give something back to the Island. Since then we have developed a new initiative in partnership with them – “Give Bees a Chance” which evolved into “Let it Bee” which aims to highlight the plight of bees which are threatened by habitat loss, viruses and changes in agriculture. With the Festival’s help, Gift to Nature are contributing to National research and commissioning a local research project into the bee population of the Island’s south coast, researching and protecting new bee reserves.

We gave away thousands of seeds at the 2008, 2009 and 2010 festival, at shows across the Island through the summer, and with the help of the Isle of Wight AONB to every school on the Isle of Wight. For the latest on the Isle of Wight Festival’s environmental project go to the Eco-Action website.
