AONB Unit
About half of the Island is AONB, mostly in the South and West, but with five parcels stretching across the whole land area, in total around 189 square kilometres. It was designated in 1963. The AONB represents the variety of landscapes found upon the Island, from high chalk downs to lush green pastures. It also includes around half of the coastline including all of the Heritage Coast.
Centuries of land management have shaped the existing landform to create today's landscape. Any persons' perception of beauty is an individual thing and one which is very often different from our forebears. This makes it hard to generalise, however there are many landscapes which have widespread appeal. The Isle of Wight has that special feel.

Wight Wildlife
Wight Wildlife was formed in 1993 to combine the expertise of two of the Island's major conservation charities, the Isle of Wight Natural History Archaeological Society and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. In 2001, we welcomed the Wight Nature Fund into the partnership. By working in partnership and pooling our resources, we strengthen the wildlife conservation effort on the Island.

English Heritage
It’s no surprise that Osborne House was Queen Victoria’s favourite retreat. Set in magnificent grounds overlooking the Solent, this beautiful stately home promises a fantastic day out. Trace the footsteps of one of Britain’s most popular monarchs as you wander through the Italianate terrace gardens, and marvel at the sumptuous interiors and furnishings.
