Ensure a future for Island wildlife - Remember Gift to Nature in your Will

Gift to Nature protects the Island's wildlife and environment and we wish to continue to do so for many years to come, and with your help we shall.

We are committed to protecting and preserving the Isle of Wight's natural heritage. We aim to increase public awareness and understanding of our precious habitats and wildlife by encouraging people to visit our conservation sites.

How You Can Help

By remembering Gift to Nature in your Will you can leave a lasting impression. Your legacy will help us retain the species which are special to the Island by enabling projects such as the Sandown Wetlands project which helped our Water Vole population, struggling to survive on the mainland because of introduced mink populations. Other donations have helped educate people about our thriving Red Squirrel population and how essential it is. Your legacy could be used to help some of our dwindling habitats such as ancient woodland, benefiting animals such as the Barbastelle bat, found in only eight UK sites in 2004, one of which being on the Island.

Here are some examples of how you could make a difference by remembering Gift to Nature in your Will:

  • £500 could fund wildlife workshops for local school children
  • £1000 could pay for more nest boxes for birds and Red Squirrels
  • £5000 could finance paths and boardwalks
  • £10000 could allow for proper care or restoration of a wildlife habitat
  • £50000 could enable us to buy nature reserves and protect them from all future development

It is important to support Isle of Wight wildlife because:

  • The Island is home to 29 species of national concern and 205 species of local concern
  • The Island has around 40 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (these cover some 11% of the Island’s land area)
  • The nature of being an Island means that we have fewer introduced species threatening our native populations
  • The Island is an essential stronghold for species such as the Red Squirrel, dormouse, Glanville Fritillary butterfly and Water vole

Legacies are an important source of income for charities like ours. If you would like to leave a gift to nature in your will, speak to your solicitor or contact us if you require any further information.
