Picnics

Picnic Paradise

The Island is bursting with great picnic spots, at the Sandown Wetlands (a Gift to Nature site) there is a beautiful spot – in the autumn you can help yourself to apples, pears and plums from the orchard. Or try St Helen’s Duver, it is very pretty and you can walk off your lunch by crossing the causeway and walking past Brading Marshes. There are ice creams on hand if that takes your fancy and paddling after to cool your feet.
Newtown is a beautiful spot for picnicking and take a walk after over the bridges and board walks or visit the fascinating Newtown Old Town Hall – a diddy National Trust property, open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays.  Mottistone woods are full of Bluebells in the spring and for a lovely walk after your picnic head up Mottistone Down for breathtaking views and the mysterious Neolithic Long Stone. For a cup of tea after head to the Pottery café at Chessel and design your own cup or bowl in the studio (for contact details see our members listings).
