Spotted Flycatcher

We are currently raising money to buy Spotted Flycatcher boxes. We would like to raise £2,000 to install 200 boxes all over the Island. Lack of nesting sites means that we currently only have a couple of breeding pairs of this rare bird.

This sleek brown bird with a pale, streaked front migrates all the way to Africa for the winter. Their breeding populations have plummeted in the past thirty years and gardens have become an essential nesting area. If you would like to install a box they like to have a good view from their nest and need a special open nest box with a low front, between 2m – 4m high off the ground. The birds will lay eggs between May and August and sometimes have two broods in a year.
